The installer will detect DC being the newer version and cancel setup. Note you cannot install Reader XI on top of DC. Now enjoy using a workable version of Reader. This will prevent Adobe from trying to update itself to the horror that is DC. When you launch Adobe Reader, go to Edit > Preferences, click the Updater category, and select Do not download or install updates automatically. Please check whether you set Foxit PhantomPDF for MAC as privacy application in your Mac’s System Preferences. A few updates back the software would just crash as soon as I load a document.
Adobe Reader DC is very unreliable in my personal opinion. When open Foxit PhantomPDF/Reader for MAC or a PDF file which is opened with PhantomPDF/Reader, computer freezes for around some seconds, after what the software opens with the requested file. Hi, I use Foxit Reader for viewing and commenting PDF files. Just like original poster, I suffered with the program crashing whenever I had to switch between multiple opened PDF's on DC.
